From August 1987 to January 1989 the Prince performed his military service in the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps and the Royal Netherlands Navy. He holds the rank of lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve. Since 1 May  2013 he was captain-lieutenant in the Royal Navy Reserve and Aide-de-Camp  Extraordinary to his majesty the King
